The signage system for the historic core of Split
The size and system of implementation for the panels stems from the basic division of Diocletian’s palace (Castrum) which has basically a square as a module.
By analyzing the main entrances, the axis of movement, and the most important junctions in the palace we came to the positions for setting the signage system. By doing so we created an information infrastructure that enables navigation and movement within the city center plus, and an understanding of the entire area of the historic core of Split. The colors used derive from the narrow range of colors already integrated into the existing urban environment. Individual colors indicate the character of the content and historic period of origin for each cultural monument mentioned on the standalone panels. Differentiation of the Croatian and English text is achieved through white versus 25-percent color tone of the substrate.
All panels are composed of two materials – Trespa Meteon and stainless steel blade carriers. Elements are connected with a two-component adhesive, except for signs that indicate commercial activities and which are removable / table inserted within a stainless steel frame /. The substructure is a stainless steel blade carrier 4 mm thick. Trespa is a material derived from pressed laminates / HPL /. It is used in the exterior Trespa Meteon.
The panels are divided into:
Stand-alone / basic information and designation of monument /
Wall-panels / designation of the street, monument, landmark and commercial facilities /.
